Founded in 1945, the Soil Science Society of China (SSSC) is one of the top-level national academic societies under China Association for Science and Technology. It is a legally registered, trans-industrial, trans-departmental and non-profit organization oriented towards promoting progresses in soil sciences, supporting all soil scientists in the pursuit of their activities, and providing services to the society and government. SSSC was affiliated to the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, ever since 1951 when its registration was approved by the People’s Central Government of the People’s Republic of China. In 1979, SSSC became a member of the International Soil Science Society (now IUSS, the International Union of Soil Sciences).

For the past 70 years, SSSC has been sticking to the tenet of its organization, that is, to center around central tasks of the state, to unite and rely on the broad masses of soil and fertilizer scientists, and by making full use of its advantages, such as broad scientific coverage, abundance of intellectual resources and extensive lateral linkage, to carry on academic exchange, edition and publication, scientific popularization, education and training, consultation for decision-making, technical service, international cooperation, talents recommendation, reward and recognition, meanwhile actively recruiting new members, reflecting opinions and calls of the members to competent authorities and providing members with better services. The SSSC presents three nationwide awards to its members, including the SSSC Outstanding Achievement Award, the Science and Technology Award and the Outstanding Young Scholar Award.
